Biography & Research Abstract

Abstract:

I will be working with PhD student Felipe Felix Arias on the FIT Cobot project, where we will be adding Visual SLAM, obstacle avoidance, and human trajectory prediction capabilities to the Clearpath Boxer mobile base robot. Our work will require the usage of a thorough sensor suite including depth cameras, radar, laser, and other sensors to aid with navigation in dynamic environments. Our research goal is to incorporate spatial contextual awareness into trajectory prediction and navigation using the Boxer and the Jackrobbot Dataset. I will also help add documentation to our codebases and help improve readability and reproducibility.

Bio:

My name is Benjamin Nguyen and I am a freshman at UIUC majoring in Computer Science in the Grainger College of Engineering. I am interested in the intersection between AI, Robotics, and IoT systems, as well as their place in the fourth industrial revolution. I come from the Bay Area in California, where I love to enjoy the nice weather and the myriad of food options available. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, playing League, and watching YouTube videos from channels like 3B1B and 2-minute papers. Feel free to contact me to talk at any time!
