Research Description
This semester, I am working with Professor Chacko on a citation analysis project. As an introduction to citation analysis, I constructed a network by matching a subset of publications from the PubMed database to citations in the public domain that are archived in the Open Citations dataset. I studied degree distributions in this network and in the entire Open Citations dataset. I will be implementing the dependence/independence profiles of nodes in the network I constructed to identify those that are recognized within narrow or broad contexts of these publications. Independence and dependence have to do with the proportion of publications citing the focal publication and also cite the focal publication's references. I will then re-examine independence and dependence in the context of clustered publications to consider another aspect of community organization.
