Research/Engagement Experience
I worked with another STARS student during the 2022-2023 Fall semester on a research project to discover mindful language in guided meditation. Our main research objectives included: understanding the natural language used in guided meditation and how this language affects the mind and body; conducting exploratory analysis, including topic modeling and cross-collection topic modeling to analyze mindful language.

Interests
Artificial Intelligence and Natural Language Processing

Project Title
Mindful Language in Guided Meditation

How did I get interested in Computer Science?
I have always been interested in solving problems and I love crosswords and sudokus! In high school, it was fascinating for me to imagine how computers perceive information. CS enabled me to potentially create an impact, and I want to pursue natural language processing through computing because it aligns with my interests in language and technology.

What social interests matter to me?
Lack of access to education and employment for women

What is my most impactful college experience?
Taking a linguistics course on campus where I discovered an interest for NLP research

These are a few of my favorite things!
I enjoy reading, drinking coffee, and listening to music!

Research Description
Our research aims to identify mindful language in guided meditation transcripts and possibly summarize this language computationally. In the Fall semester, we performed an exploratory analysis on data from two branches of guided meditation, using an unsupervised computational approach to categorize mindful language. In the spring, we will be doing a predictive analysis to classify and predict the next sequences of data in the meditations.
