Biography & Research Abstract

Abstract:

I study the theoretical aspects of topics in deep learning. The existing research work mainly focuses on neural networks based on Gaussian initialization. But, the PyTorch setting also uses uniform distribution initialization which is interesting. My research first focuses on 2-layer linear network with uniform distribution initialization and then extends it to the deep linear case using the technique of gradient flow and SGD.

Bio:

I am Yihan Zhang, a rising senior studying Computer Science and Math at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. My research interest mainly lies in theoretical machine learning and deep learning theory. Previously, I took some courses like real analysis, machine learning, and optimization. This summer, I will research some topics under the supervision of glorious Matus Telgarsky. I am looking forward to devoting myself to it and trying my best to unlock some interesting questions in these areas! I am fluent in English and I can speak some German!
