Biography & Research Abstract

Abstract:

PASTA is an efficient algorithm of generating multiple sequence alignment. However, its performance is sometimes unstable due to datasets' sequence length heterogeneity (the existence of too long/short sequences). Therefore, my research includes the negative effect of sequence length heterogeneity, results of current improvements on PASTA and a future direction.

Bio:

My name is Qikai Yang and I am a senior student in UIUC majored in statistics and computer science. My research interest includes phylogenetics, multiple sequence alignment, optimization problem. Currently, I am doing my undergraduate thesis with Professor Tandy Warnow on multiple sequence alignment algorithm.
