Biography & Research Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a massive daily influx of biomedical publications, making it hard for medical researchers to synthesize all the published information and find the most relevant papers. To automate this time-consuming process and aid researchers, we hope to apply recent state-of-the-art advances in NLP and information extraction to medical publications, for tasks such as information retrieval, COVID-19 knowledge graph (KG) generation, question-answering (QA), multimedia mining and drug report generation. Further, we hope to integrate these (and other existing) frameworks into an integrated human-in-the-loop intelligent knowledge assistant to enhance existing drug discovery tools and accelerate vaccine research.
Dipro is a rising senior at UIUC, pursuing a major in computer science and a minor in math. Being passionate about using data to understand the world around us better, he is primarily interested in information retrieval and mining, NLP, applied ML and scientific computation. He has worked on semi-supervised domain-specific keyword detection at Forward Lab, on distributed Tucker tensor completion algorithms at LPNA and on dimensionality reduction for biomedical data at NCSA. He has also worked at Facebook on their Search autocomplete technology. Outside academics, Dipro has been part of the Reflections | Projections conference staff for three years.
