Illinois Computer Science Graduate Mary Jane Irwin Honored For Longtime Dedication To Design, Automation

The EDAA presented Irwin with the award earlier this month at its annual DATE Conference in Dresden, Germany. The EDAA serves the international electronics design and design automation community.
Irwin (MS CS ’75, PhD ’77) has been part of the faculty at Penn State since 1977. She is the Emeritus Evan Pugh University Professor in Computer Science and Engineering and, before retiring in 2017, was the A. Robert Noll Chair in Engineering.
Irwin has been widely honored for her work. She was named a fellow of The Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers in 1995 and a fellow of The Association for Computing Machinery in 1996. She also was inducted into the National Academy of Engineering in 2003 and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences in 2009.
Last year’s Achievement Award honoree was former Illinois Computer Science Professor C.L. David Liu.
