Xue “Steve” Liu (MS CS ’03, PhD CS ’06), Professor and William Dawson Scholar in McGill University’s School of Computer Science, is one of 50 new Fellows and two new International Fellows who were inducted into the Canadian Academy of Engineering on June 14, 2021.

Established in 1987, the Canadian Academy of Engineering is the national institution through which Canada’s most distinguished and experienced engineers provide strategic advice on matters of critical importance to Canada. Fellows of the Academy are nominated and elected by their peers, in view of their distinguished achievements and career-long service to the engineering profession.

At McGill, Liu leads the Cyber-Physical Intelligence Lab, which focuses on research in green IT, smart energy, smart vehicles, and mobile computing. An IEEE Fellow and ACM Distinguished Member, Liu has published over 380 research papers. He was recently elected chair of the ACM Special Interest Group on Embedded Systems (SIGBED). From 2016 to 2019, he served as Chief Scientist for Tinder Inc.
