Ruey-Feng Shieh Li Family Scholarship

Born in rural Taiwan, Ruey-Feng overcame numerous obstacles to continue her education from high school to achieving two Masters degrees - her first in Journalism, the second in Computer Science. She developed a successful technical career as a programmer, working with companies IBM, Sony Ericsson, and Lenovo. Her daughter Amy Tamura, who achieved her Bachelor's degree in Computer Science at Illinois in 2005, with her husband Eric have chosen to honor her mother by establishing the Ruey-Feng Shieh Li Scholarship in Computer Sciences at Illinois. This award is meant to inspire those who previously discounted their potential for a career in CS, with the goal to increase diversity in tech and support the broadening of participation in computer science.
