Computers & Education

The Computers and Education research group studies both the teaching of Computer Science and the application of computers in education at all levels. We create and measure new pedagogical techniques and tools for teaching CS in both small and very large classrooms, using enhanced programming tools, active learning techniques, online instruction, and peer support. We study way of addressing the needs of underrepresented groups in CS; characterize and develop assessments for the fundamental misconceptions that prevent student learning; and study the application of pen-based computing for in-person and online instruction.
