Research Statement
Both language and proteins have a hidden structure that we need to reveal among thousands of possibilities. Natural language parsing and protein structure prediction are therefore very similar search problems. And although they are solved effortlessly in nature, both tasks are currently still very hard for computers. As a computer scientist, I want to know what makes these search processes in nature so fast and so reliable, and how we can exploit these principles in our algorithms.
