The Department of Computer Science's outreach initiatives recognize that the scientific, economic, and human resource advantages that the US now enjoys are dependent on an IT workforce large and diverse enough to meet accelerating demand. In support of this ideal, the department supports a number of programs designed to help develop and sustain a strong, savvy IT labor pool.
Our mission is to increase the quantity and quality of female and minority students and others who have been historically underrepresented in computer science. Our outreach program provides distinctive programs, supportive services, mentoring, financial, and academic opportunities to highly-motivated women and minority students who have interest and potential to pursue careers in computer science.
We have received support for many of these activities from the National Science Foundation and several companies.
